Selecting Your Golden Puppy
A breeder that you can count on and trust is essential in selecting the type of puppy that you would want. A careful consideration and decision making can take some time- maybe a few weeks or even a few months, but getting the right puppy at the end will be worth the wait and effort you put in. You can compare several different Golden pups that your breeder has before selecting one yourself.
A deposit is required by some breeders for pups that are a certain weeks old. Some pups are already on the sold list even before they reach seven weeks old and if you want to get your hands on a good littler, you need to get yourself a breeder very much earlier before the puppies are bought by someone else.
Some breeders to the selecting for you and you shouldn’t be taken aback by this. Quality breeders spend time getting to know the new born pups and thus, this acquaintance will allow the breeder to know each and every pup’s personality. Temperament tests are usually carried out by breeders to determine the temperaments of each puppy that they have.
These tests make it easier for the breeder to identify which puppy suits which home better. When you select your breeder, bear in mind to let the breeder do their job in selecting the puppy that will match you best. Being around the litter since its birth makes the breeder know the litter better than you would and the selection process will be easier. Besides, isn’t this whole point of you finding a good breeder? So let the man do his job.
Golden pups are adorable and cute. Though that, it shouldn’t be the only reason you select a Golden Retriever puppy. Selecting you pup goes beyond how the pup looks like and so, you should choose one that has a strong built with straight legs. Apart from being strong and muscular, the puppy should squirm and be active and you first pick him or her up. Having a healthy set of teeth and gums is also essential apart from overall health and physique.
Some breeders will allow you to select the puppy yourself- believing in the owner-pet connection. When you select your puppy, take the puppies that you are interested in away from the whole litter and do a careful observation and how each one reacts to you. Seven week old puppies are more active in exploring their surroundings. They may be cautious at first but after awhile, their curiosity will get to them and they will be sniffing and taking in their surroundings.
When observing each and every puppy individually, interact with them and observe how they react to your voice. Do things such as playing with them and patting them and see their responses. If you like the way your puppy responds, than that’s good. Some would-be owners prefer active pups while some prefer more docile and less active pups. It all depends on you and how you think your pup will adapt to your home.
You need to take time to evaluate each puppy that you are interested in to ensure you get the right one for you and your family. Golden Retrievers are excellent home pets. Whatever you choose, make sure that the puppy is healthy as it will lead to a healthy and strong adult, with a long life ahead of them.
