Training For Your Golden Retriever
When you think about training your dog, always keep in mind that different breeds have different training methods. Golden Retrievers are easy to train- the younger they are, the better. There are many ways to do this and below are some of the examples:
Behavior training
In behavior training, it is basically about teaching your dog to be an obedient pet. Good general behavior, interaction with humans and other pets, least training as well as routine training are part and parcel of behavior training. Passing the behavior training will see your dog graduating to become a more obedient and composed dog.
Activity training
Through activity training, your Golden Retriever will learn various activities such as hunting, herding, search and rescue as well as retrieving- what Golden’s are good at. If you are the sort of person who loves the outdoors, then sending your Golden for activity training will be a great combination for the both of you since you are bound to have a more interesting and adventurous outing with your dog.
Obedience training
Your Golden Retriever will learn to perform certain activities well through obedience training. Obedience training focuses on general behavior as is teaches the dog to be well behaved. This will ensure that the dog listens and obeys to your every command. Commands such as ‘Come here boy!’ or ‘Sit’, ‘Roll over’, ‘Don’t Chew’ will be obeyed instantly by your dog after finishing obedience training.
Different types of training generate different types of outcome for your dog as explained above. You have to select a class that fits the general needs of your dog as well as yourself. Giving him the proper training will help him in living at your home. For instance, if you have carpets or rugs and you do not want your dog biting on them, then sending your retriever to an obedience class will do the trick of stopping him from chewing up your precious rugs and carpets.
Since Golden Retrievers are attention seekers, then some behavior traits are a result of lack of attention or boredom. Of course, this can be easily fixed with you and your family spending more time with him. as more time is spent on your dog, his erratic behavior will eventually decrease. Training is only needed if your dog needs a little bit more help than just extra attention. Golden retrievers, like all dogs, would not know if what they are doing is wrong unless you let them know- just like humans, right.
When you bring a Golden puppy home, you need to determine what are the skills and tricks you would need to teach him that can make him adapt to your home surroundings faster. Some common tasks that your dog needs to know is when his meal times are and when are his walks. Also, there are bound to be areas in your house which are off limits to your dog. So by knowing what to teach your dog and how, the process of adapting is much faster and easier. Patience should always be present and training should be done at an earlier age where the habit will stick to him like glue even to his older days. As they say, old habits die hard. The same is true for dogs.
