Keeping Your Golden Retriever Healthy

With a good, healthy and strong immune system, it acts as a shield in fending off any type of illness for your Golden Retriever. They say for humans, what you eat is what you are and the same is true for dogs as well. You can help boost up your Golden’s immune system by feeding him proper food.

Homemade food works best for your dog. You can either give him home cooked food continuously or mix it together with canned dog food. We all know that no matter what, home cooked food is always the best and not only does it taste better, it contains all the nutrients and vitamins a dog needs for a healthy immune system. When it comes to water, spring water is the best though many people prefer to give water directly from the faucet. Spring water is much better to be given.

When giving a treat to your dog in the form or a bone, make sure that the bone is covered with sufficient meat. This will help your dog develop strong bones thanks to the constant chewing of the bones and meat. A good set of strong healthy teeth is as important to a Golden as it is important to any other dog. Apart from giving him bones to chew on everyday, the other alternative would be chew toys. When playing with him, give your dog a chew toy to bite on.

Keeping your Golden Retriever healthy is also about knowing the health problems that they might have. Knowing the diseases that they might be prone too can help you to keep track of vet diagnoses on your Golden. Doing a bit of research in this department can help you in terms of knowing what to do when your vet tells you something is wrong with your Golden.

Reproductive problems can happen to your Golden, so to avoid any of this from happening, neutering him is a good solution. Reproductive problems in a Golden are quite common and this is a silent killer as you wouldn’t know how serious this problem is until severer symptoms occur. If sending your Golden for breeding purposes is not in the picture, then get him neutered as soon as possible to prevent any reproductive diseases from happening.

A longer and healthier life for your Golden is in store if you take the necessary steps towards health maintenance. A proper diet and plenty of exercise is essential to keep your dog staying healthy and strong. A healthy and strong mature Golden Retriever will breed healthy pups in the future. A healthy Golden Retriever family will make you happy as it is a family pet that blends in well with your family.
